Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about how Kasero works, credits, and booking policies.
Credits
What are Kasero credits?
Credits are Kasero's internal currency for booking stays. When you host a fellow educator, you earn credits. When you stay at someone's home, you spend credits. No money ever changes hands between members — the more you host, the more you can travel.
How do you earn credits?
You earn 1 credit for every night you host in an entire home, or 0.5 credits per night for a private room. Credits transfer to your balance immediately when you accept a booking. You can also earn one-time bonuses for hitting key milestones:
| Reward | How to earn | Amount |
|---|---|---|
New Host Bonus (Entire Home) | List your entire home and add 10 High Season dates | 4 credits |
New Host Bonus (Private Room) | List your private room and add 10 High Season dates | 2 credits |
| First Hosting Bonus | Host your first stay | 1 credit |
| Invitation Bonus | An educator you invited creates their first qualifying home listing | 1 credit |
| Founding Hub Bonus | An educator you invited lists in a Founding Hub city | 1 credit |
| Community Builder Bonus | Invite 5 hosts across any Founding Hubs, OR 5 hosts in any single global city (including cities that aren't Founding Hubs) | 5 credits |
What's a Founding Hub? A Founding Hub is a city where Kasero is actively growing the host community — Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Bali, Hanoi today. We feature these cities on the homepage as they grow.
How do you spend credits?
| Stay type | Cost per night |
|---|---|
| Entire Home | 1 credit |
| Private Room | 0.5 credits |
For example, a 4-night stay in an entire home costs 4 credits. A 4-night stay in a private room costs 2 credits. Nothing is charged when you submit a request — credits only transfer when your host accepts.
How Booking Credits Work
Are credits charged when I submit a request?
No. Submitting a booking request is free. Your credit balance is checked to confirm you have enough credits, but nothing is charged or held. You can send multiple requests to different hosts while you wait for responses.
When are credits transferred?
Credits transfer immediately when the host accepts your booking. The host can use those credits right away. If the host declines or doesn't respond within 72 hours, your balance is unchanged.
What if my balance changes before the host accepts?
If your balance drops below the required amount before the host accepts (e.g., another booking was accepted first), the acceptance will fail and both you and the host will be notified. Your other bookings are not affected.
Cancellation Policy
Guest Cancellation
If your plans change, you can cancel any booking from your dashboard. What happens to your credits depends on how soon after acceptance you cancel.
| When guest cancels | Refund | Calendar |
|---|---|---|
Within 48h of acceptance Grace Period | Full refund — all credits returned to your balance | Host's dates reopen |
| After 48h | No refund — credits remain with the host | Host's calendar remains locked for the original booking dates |
Host Cancellation
If you need to cancel an accepted booking, the guest always receives a full credit refund. Depending on how close to check-in you cancel, additional credits may transfer to the guest as compensation for the disruption to their plans.
| When host cancels | Refund to guest | Compensation to guest |
|---|---|---|
Within 48h of acceptance Grace Period | Full refund | None |
90+ days before check-in Yellow Zone | Full refund | None |
15–89 days before check-in Orange Zone | Full refund | 2 credits (entire home) 1 credit (private room) |
Within 14 days of check-in Red Zone | Full refund | 3 credits (entire home) 1.5 credits (private room) |
The host's calendar remains locked for the booking dates of any cancellation that occurs after the Grace Period — this keeps the dates fair to the guest who counted on those plans.
Booking Process
How do I book a stay?
Browse available homes, select your dates, and submit a booking request. No credits are charged at this stage. The host has 72 hours to accept or decline. If they accept, credits transfer immediately. You'll be notified of their decision via messaging.
What happens when a stay is completed?
Credits were already transferred to the host when they accepted the booking. Once the stay end date passes, both the guest and host will be prompted to leave a review of their experience.
Can I cancel a booking?
Yes, both guests and hosts can cancel bookings from their dashboard. The credit refund depends on how far in advance you cancel — see the Cancellation Policy section above for details.
